For the love of Africa

Click here to find out more about Who we are...

Greetings & Welcome

To Our Voyage to Motherland Blog

Tune in from May 1st 2015 every two weeks to enjoy a 6 month epic tale of our self discovery as we delve into the depths of Africa.

We will be your eyes and ears on the ground as we showcase the best the continent has to offer in terms of adventure and spoken word poetry.

Sankofa

Our mission is to embark on a spiritual journey back to our ancestral home in the continent of Africa, the birthplace of the human race via the African DNA, the heaven on Earth. We believe in the spirit of Sankofa (to reach back and get it). In order for us to elevate holistically as beings, it is essential to return from where we came. We seek to master our mind, body and soul through exploration of ancient and alternative practices from people such as the Dogon priests of West Africa and the Bedouin nomads of Egypt. We will be actually tasting the baobab fruit from the tree of life located in countries such as Ghana and seeking powerful herbs such as Moringa that can heal, nourish and connect us to the Earth, the Ether and the Universe.

With the studied knowledge that all over the continent there are markers of a history of advanced ancient civilizations, we desire to visit particular archaeological sites that we have researched and are suggested to us by those who actually live in the countries that we go to.

Unfortunately it would appear that the diaspora on a whole is disconnected from Africa mostly due to the single story that paints the continent negatively.

Knowledge is like the Baobab tree, one person’s arms cannot encompass it

As Pan-Africanists we strive to bring about unity to people of African descent and therefore have a fiery passion for the mission connecting the UK diaspora with Africans on the continent. We aim to do this by documenting our travels by means of blog/vlog and social media (twitter, Instagram) so that the diaspora can experience the journey through our words and our eyes. We will dispel myths and abhorrent associations we view through a one sided media that keep our people away from the Motherland. With in-depth research we will visit the resorts that showcase the wondrous beauty of great touristic value that Africa beholds. We will provide the fair facts through accurate and reliable on the ground sources. We will highlight thriving businesses by interviewing successful entrepreneurs with the aim that the diaspora will be inspired and motivated to invest in Africa!

Artistic Endeavours

Being that we are artists who philosophise and enlighten through Spoken Word Poetry, we will turn our Sankofa experiences into a Spoken Word Project.

We aim to expand our profiles as spoken word artists leaving the places we visit with a positive poetical presence. There is Power in the Pen. We will not only be gaining from our journey but making our mark therefore we desire to work as Artists in performing, holding workshops and offer to run and host open mic sessions that edutain poetically. Spoken Word Poetry is an art form that roots back to beginning of time. The griot storytelling tradition; a brilliant raw form of expression that brims the performer with confidence, the mastery of performance, literary & vocal techniques - transferrable skills that are essential in everyday life.

Where will we go?

The countries we have earmarked as ones we want to visit are based on our connections with people who currently live there, we will be going to Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia and Sierra Leone in a 6 month period.

Although the task we have set ourselves is a mighty one, it is not beyond us, however, we need all the support we can get, the more we have the more we can do.

It is time to reclaim what is ours as African people.

Documentary

When we return in September 2015, the aim is to collate all of our footage and create a feature length film to be screened at local level cinemas in 2016. We know that this film will inspire the diaspora to adventure out for themselves and marvel at the wonders that Africa has on offer to them.

Support our Voyage Financially

What we need:

Funding is key to seeing this project is raised off the ground. Our journey will require the financial support from our community to ensure we can realise this mission. We will require funds for travel to, in and around the countries that we visit, to buy equipment such as an I-pad with mobile internet access, a high quality camera with portable tripod, telecommunications (mobile phones with skype and whatsapp access) and emergency funds.
